Young, single and available on social apps!

The old will be old and young will be young, wild and crazy. Today, young generation is spending more time taking self shoots and posting them across social media platforms. Their idea is to get more and more likes and shares. This obsession of posting self-shot pics is the young and new way to find love. The rule is if you want to find love post as many photos of your face as you can.

Social apps trends

GenX is finding and meeting new and potential dates via smartphone apps like Tinder, Meet Me, FourSquare, Pinterest, Circles etc. These apps help find new people and some of them also finds nearby people who can be potential matches. These apps know your current locations via your smartphone GPS and can fetch data and show photos from their Social Media profiles. Users have the option to follow or send request to connect or even like or reject photos. If a the user you sent request accepts your invitation, both are alerted and can start connecting virtually.

Today apps are getting quick and easy to navigate. You can scroll through thousands of photos within few minutes. Though most of the Social Media apps have privacy settings still the young users are least bother about these setting. Only one in ten users manage their profile privacy settings. Young generation is experiencing or at least trying to experience some romantic encounters and potential matches through these social apps. According to the co-founder of Tinder, Justin Mateen, he himself has made 100m matches since it was launch in September 2012, and also led to 50 marriage proposals.

Help finding love ?

According to a report people in USA are marrying later than ever before. Today, they love to flirt and date and that too longer and longer – creating new opportunities for match making app developers and matchmakers. Some apps are quite direct like BWF – Bang with Friends allows users to specify which of their Facebook friends they would like to bed. If both parties involved feel the same way, BWF notifies them otherwise the answers are kept secure and no one ever knows anything. Though BWF was kicked from Apple app store, it has created more than 200,000 pairings since its January 2013 launch.

These applications make it easier to find new friends and potential partners, but don’t seem to have curved USA into a nation of bed- hoppers. According to the US Centres for Disease Control, young women of 15-44 years of age claim to have had a median of 3.6 male lovers, while young men of same age group claim to have had 6.1 female ones. These figures may be imprecise and inaccurate, men may overstate or exaggerate; women may undercount but they have not changed much in years.

Parents worry that staring at screens all day has made youngsters socially incompetent and unapt face-to- face. A survey undertook by Christian Mingle and J-Date – niche-dating sites has found that 36-38% of American people who are between 21-34 years of age ask for dates by text message. But when they meet in real, they must still make their moves in person. Witty banter, warm hugs and a well-timed wink still have their uses.
